Work Opportunities

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) - Curricular Practical Training (CPT) should be part of your school curriculum. To qualify for CPT, you must have completed one full academic year, unless you're a graduate student whose program requires immediate CPT.

 

Optional Practical Training (OPT) - Optional Practical Training (OPT) refers to temporary employment relating to your field of study (working at a TV station, for example, would qualify if you're studying journalism). Eligible students can receive up to 12 months of OPT employment.

 
There are two types of OPT

Pre-completion OPT - This option is available once you have completed one full academic year at a U.S. college or university. You can work up to 20 hours a week when school is in session or full time when it is not.

 

Post-completion OPT- You can apply for this option after completing your studies. Those who are authorized for post-completion OPT can work either part time or full time.

 

Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Optional Practical Training Extension (OTP) – For science & engineering courses. Duration maximum up to 36 months and can file H1B.
